So yesterday Evan got ahold of Daddy's lightsaber - I think it scared him a little when it first fired up:
So, I figured it was probably time to start his training since he was showing an interest already. Got him a Training Saber so that he can't hurt himself or damage anything in the house:
Another nice day today - got some yard work done and all. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate honeysuckle?
This morning I went out to watch Tyler play soccer, cute watching all the little kids run around (sometimes aimlessly). Got some good photos too for Tim and Kristi of him playing. Shooting photos is always so much easier at events where you're just a photojournalist basically.
And speaking of photos, I finally got around to shooting a few more of Evan tonight to add to his 8-month-old stuff. Just haven't been taking many photos lately, really need to get better about it - time is definitely flying.
Today was really nice - one of the kinds of days that remind me why I stayed here in SC. 77 degrees and sunny. Things blooming, the whole nine yards.
I even roamed around with the camera a little this afternoon looking for stuff to shoot for Spring photos for the School's website, but didn't find much. There were lots of great "student/Horseshoe/Spring weather" type shots out there because there were about 1,000 people enjoying the sun today. But, I wasn't in much of a mood to stick a camera in people's faces and since nothing much was in bloom in that area really I just gave up.
Was really too tired to care anyway, been getting about 5-6 hours of sleep for a few nights now and still haven't recovered from not sleeping this last weekend. It's all my fault too, I've been sucked into some show on TV or a video game or whatever and keep procrastinating washing the bottles and making the new ones for tomorrow. So, before I know it midnight comes around and I'm doing it all then while I'm tired as hell already and then bed after that. Alarm comes early, blah.
But not tonight... tonight everything's already done and I plan on crashing a little early today. Beat Darksiders tonight which was an awesome game Dave loaned me so I'm kind of without a great game. Still have a lot of Borderlands left, but it's not the type I'm really dying to play all the time... could use a new game like that.
Got back today from a wonderful weekend trip with Christina to Asheville, NC.
Brian and Atasha were driving down from Michigan - for the weekend only unfortunately - and he said make plans.
We were going to go on a ski trip with Tim & Kristi and Dave & Janna, but Kristi forgot she had to fly out of town for a conference this morning, so they couldn't go. Since Christina had been wanting a trip for just the two of us anyway, I asked them to play along and didn't tell Christina we weren't going skiing.
Instead, I made reservations at Cumberland Bed and Breakfast in Asheville and told her on the way up there Friday. It was a nice surprise and the whole weekend was a wonderful escape - still can't thank them enough for watching Evan for a couple nights.
The bed and breakfast was... meh, all right. Don't get me wrong, it was fantastic and exactly what it should be and what one would expect. Just wouldn't be my first choice from now on, that's all. They're pricey and then there's the whole having to meet and talk to people thing. It was great for the experience, great for a romantic getaway (cliche) weekend, but I'd have been just as happy at a Hampton Inn. In fact, we probably would have slept better since our room at the B&B was so warm up on the 3rd floor. The skylight in our room that opened was our only savior since nights were still cool in Asheville this time of year. But, the room was really cool looking with all of it's various angles and nooks as you can see in the photo gallery linked below.
We went out Friday night and had dinner at the Bier Garden in downtown which was pretty good. Walked around a bit and saw a drum circle and dancing going on in this small park area too. Asheville certainly is full of eclectic folks - interesting to see, not so much my taste though. It's like having vegetarian/vegan fare on the menu everywhere, including breakfasts at our B&B... things like that.
Saturday we had spa appointments for what they called a couples rendezvous. Hour massage which was crazy good, scalp treatment and facial. Very relaxing day, haha. We also drove up the mountainside on some private drives so I could find a good vantage point for a downtown Asheville skyline photo. And speaking of photo ops, we also saw both Looking Glass Falls and Sliding Rock Falls in the Pisgah National Forest but we passed on doing a long hike to the other falls in the area.
All in all it was a really great trip. We're glad Evan was well behaved for them though we're not surprised, he's a great, laid back kid. Only thing we were really worried about was how he would do with them because with some folks he doesn't recognize he gets scared still. But we were here long enough Friday after they arrived to see he was perfectly fine and happy and since he was being watched by Super Mom herself, Atasha, we really didn't have much to worry about this weekend.... which was exactly what we were looking forward to more than anything else!
