We had a great Christmas with Evan this year - even though he obviously doesn't really know what's going on. The next few years will be more fun I'm sure.
He had a good time opening his gifts nonetheless and I added a few photos to the Christmas 2009 gallery and took the movie below:
It's finally Christmas break! Long last few months, this is going to be a nice break from work until January 4th.
We had yesterday and today off work and it's been nice. Since we're the world's most awesome parents, Evan's been to daycare both days - how bad is that? :) Mommy and Daddy need a break too so that they can catch up on life. So, we've been trying to go through and get a lot of stuff done that we haven't had time to do lately.
It helps that Evan's feeling better too - he had a double ear infection last weekend and we got him some amoxicillin for it. Well, he may be allergic to it, he broke out in just about a full body red rash after the second day of it. Which is odd since he tolerated it well the first time he had an ear infection. However, to play it safe, they're going to avoid it from now on because subsequent reactions can be much worse. So, he got a different antibiotic and finished that up last night. Only took a couple days though for his personality to come back. Because let me tell you, late last week he was a holy terror McScreamy. I stayed home with him Friday and it was brutal.
Other than that he's been doing pretty well. He's shown signs of dropping his late bottle back earlier some nights so over the break we're trying to encourage that. In fact, tonight he woke up at 9:45 for it on his own... big change from me having to wake him up at 11:30 for it.
Really looking forward to Christmas morning tomorrow. He might not know what's going on but he's going to love the new toys we got him and even more so will love the wrapping paper they come in as a toy as well.
I've added a few new photos taken today to Evan's 4-5 month old gallery on Pbase. I'm sure there'll be some Christmas ones from tomorrow too. The new ones are the last 6 photos in this gallery:
I was off work today because both Evan having a double ear infection and us being down to one vehicle. Evan gets amoxicillin for the ears and the car... well, it's not that bad I think, but it's got a moderate hum when you drive that is tied to speed and Christina said she heard it squeal. The belts look good and it's only a 2007 with 31,000 miles so who knows what it could be. We'll bring it in sometime over the Christmas break.
The break I am so looking forward to already. It's amazing the hours you don't have in life when you have a kid. So many things to do and many more that don't get done. Plus the break brings the first Christmas morning for Evan and even though he won't really know what's going on, he'll enjoy crinkling the wrapping paper, so that's fun.
Anyway, speaking of the little germpod, he's waking up so it must be close to bottle time...
Well, like I said in the last post, never enough hours in the day. Amazing what else I could get done in life if we just had one more day of weekend, you know?
But, tomorrow will be important at work - I have interviews #2 and #3 tomorrow afternoon. Then I'll meet with my boss on Tuesday before our Holiday lunch and we'll talk about general IT department issues along with the three candidates. Hopefully we'll have an offer letter out by mid-week just in case there is a hiring freeze after the New Year.
This weekend's been productive though in some ways. We finally decorated the tree we bought last weekend. We didn't get to go to the Lights at the Zoo yet because of the weather today - we cancelled. However, since there's been no football this weekend and no other plans, we have been able to do quite a bit of other things I've been wanting to do but haven't had the time.
Thursday evening after work I took family photos for Tim and Kristi at the State House and they turned out pretty good:
Afterwards we all went to dinner and Kristi gave us the little Santa outfit her kids wore when they were little so I could take some shots of Evan to put online and use for Christmas cards - love how these and the other Christmas 2009 images I've included so far turned out:
Okay, had enough photos??? Yeah, like I said, a weekend with no plans has been a nice chance to pick up the camera and work on some new images and videos. And while I'm finally getting a chance to update my blog, I'll include a link to the newest video too:
Just getting around to posting because my weekend went through Tuesday and yesterday was busy. My Mom was in town until Tuesday afternoon and it was a great visit - really glad she got to see Evan at this age too, I know he loved having her here.
We loved having her here too, not just to visit but she watched Evan on Saturday while we went and watched USC beat down Clemson 34-17. Was quite a fun game to watch, took me a couple days to get my full voice back for all the screaming. Was a good tailgate too, Brian deep-fried a turkey for everyone after the game which was great and we had perfect weather too. I doubt we're going to be able to make the trip to whichever bowl we end up going to with Evan, but winning Saturday sure did improve the bowl prospects a good bit.
It was also a nice break from work which has been overly busy for this time of year. Usually we're pretty slow coming up on the holiday break, but support issues keep pouring in the last couple weeks. At least I'm finally at the point where I'm calling candidates for our 4th IT staff position to set up interviews. There's a rumor about a potential hiring freeze at USC at the start of next year so we'd like to get the interviews done and an offer letter written before the holiday break. Getting our 4th person back is really going to help us out with keeping our heads above water - now let's hope the leading candidate interviews well and accepts the offer.
Looking forward to the break too. We need to find a time/place to take Evan in for photos or I need to do it at home with those backdrops I bought. I just don't have the lighting equipment a pro would have quite yet so I know I won't get "as good" of results, but I'm sure I could get some good shots for Christmas cards. Hoping he learns to sit up a little on his own by Christmas, he's certainly trying really hard to do it right now, but that may be a little early for him.
