Well, I now know what it's like to have to call 9-1-1.
Last night someone was about to break into our house at around 2am.
They were apparently looking for unoccupied places because they rang the doorbell 7-10 times. Thinking that some kids in the neighborhood were trying to prank us, I just walked downstairs and sat on the stairs that look at the front door instead of flipping on lights as I went. Thought I'd just wait to see some shadowy movements on the front porch and then flip on the porch lights and scare me some kids.
Our front door faces our back door exactly and the back door is a french door with glass for most of the door. Well as I'm sitting there looking at the front door there's a flashlight shining in from the back door sweeping around. So as soon as it faces straight towards the front door I jumped from the staircase into the foyer and started moving towards the back door. Flashlight disappeared immediately and the person ran off.
So, 15 minutes later after calling 9-1-1 an officer stops by and I tell him what happened and he says he'll make the rounds and that another car is coming into the neighborhood also to do the same thing.
But, even knowing that someone would only ring a doorbell if they really were looking for an unoccupied house to break into and that there is very little chance they'll return, how do you sleep after something like that? Answer is you don't... was up sitting downstairs until after 5am. Finally fell back to sleep until the alarm went off at 6:50 to go to work - so I'm a complete mess today and tired enough to barf.
Hindsight being 20/20, our house looks far more appealing than others in the neighborhood do but that will change this afternoon. We have no lights on indoors or out including no motion sensor lights. We also park both of our cars in the garage. So if you're driving around a neighborhood casing it our house is going to look ideal. So after work this afternoon I'm going to go get a couple of motion sensor flood lights to replace our old manual ones.
So all the little pink and blue lines in the world telling you that you're pregnant can't really replace a picture of the actual baby:
Can't see much yet of course - they say she's officially 8.5 weeks pregnant now. But, in the second picture you can see the heartbeat line too and it sounded great.. good rhythm and all that.
Still, an exciting day! Next ultrasound isn't until Feb. 16th where we get to find out the sex of the baby also.
Another Carolina win! Beat Arkansas 34-21 yesterday for our 7th win of the season. While you're bowl eligible at 6 wins, it's not guaranteed. With 7 wins it pretty much is a sure thing. Just don't know what bowl yet. Talk is that if we split our next two games (lose to Florida, beat Clemson) we may end up in Tampa for the Outback Bowl.
Now whether or not we'll be going to the bowl or not, who knows. Hopefully, but with the baby on the way, we'll have to see how Christina's feeling and how the budget's looking first.

Lord, we just got a fun little preview of what's to come. Cotton... ummm.... didn't leave it all in the litterbox and instead a good bit stuck to his fur. A good RANK smelling bit too. Took forever and a bath to clean him up, gagging the whole time.
At least babies don't have fur all over their asses.
Made a good addition to an already long day. Spent the day from 11am on cleaning out Robert's office at work along with Marty and Scott. Took until around 4pm, but it's pretty cleaned out. Tomorrow I'll finish it up and start moving some of my stuff in there.
Next week will be the meeting to make the position official internally - but we still have to wait until his paperwork goes through completely before the actual official position can be listed. Still, it's a step forward I suppose.
Christina's been doing well so far too for all things pregnancy. Some nausea here and there still, but she's not getting really sick or anything like that. Just comes in waves now and again. Looking forward to the first OB appointment on the 19th when we get to hear the heartbeat and see the first ultrasound.
Taking tomorrow afternoon off work - have a charity place coming to pick up our old washer and dryer. I'll let them know that the dryer squeaks but still works, not sure if they'll still want it, but the washer works well. It will be nice having the afternoon off, it'll give me time to pack up everything in the truck for our game Saturday. It's a 1pm kickoff against Arkansas, so it'll be an early morning since we'll get out there probably around 8am or so. Last home game too, so we have to savor it because we won't be heading down to the stadium again until Spring Game 2009.....
Hope everyone out there voted today. I had to wait over two and a half hours in line after my dentist appointment this morning. There's got to be a more efficient way to do this...
Anyway, going to be watching the election coverage tonight. DirecTV has a mix channel (channel 352 in HD, channel 102 in SD) that shows all the major news networks so you can quickly switch between them - nice feature!
Last Wednesday we went in and it's confirmed. Christina is about 7, maybe 8 weeks along in doctor's terms... a couple weeks less in actual baby's growth. The initial due date is June 11th.
We decided to start trying back in September and wouldn't you know the first shot would be a bullseye so to speak... just my luck! haha.
We're really excited though... and the deer-in-headlights feeling is starting to wear off a little and now we're getting into the stage where we are planning which room will be the nursery, baby names, and a myriad of other things like that.
Christina's been fairly lucky so far with the morning sickness, only a few days where she's very nauseous but so far she's keeping everything down and most days feels pretty good. The prenatal vitamins they gave her are actually easier for her to stomach than regular multivitamins which is great because we heard it's usually the exact opposite.
The baby hasn't been the only thing going on though - it is football season after all. Been too busy to go through the photos from the UAB game back in September, but here's a link to those:
There was also Halloween last Friday. Too busy to worry about doing anything at the house to scare the kids again this year, so we were glad that Tim and Kristi invited us over to their place for the night. We walked around with them and the kids trick-or-treating then when Dave and Janna got there and the kids went to bed we watched The Grudge since they all hadn't seen that movie yet - good creepy Halloween movie! And then finally the big game last night! I really don't care of Tennessee is having a down year this season, a win over them is ALWAYS great! My hatred of all things orange got a huge fix last night when we beat Tennessee here at home 27-6. The game also made us bowl eligible with 6 wins now that we're 6-3. Three games left, two are very winnable, Florida would take a miracle! But... that's why they play them... just hope we can at least get to 8 wins this season. Tim and Kristi's son was the Youth Jr. Captain for the game too, so he got to be out on the field when the team ran out of the tunnel, so there are a couple of photos in there of him standing out on the field.
