They beat Troy by the final score of 17-7. Not exactly dominating, but Troy did beat #17 Missouri this year and a decent Marshall team, so they weren't as much of a pushover team as South Florida was last weekend.
We had fun at the game.. the tailgate was good, though we weren't into the food as much. Hot wings, chicken bog, spicy baked beans, and some other miscellaneous stuff. The Ole Miss tailgate on October 9th should be better though. Someone's getting some bratwursts shipped in from Germany and Christina's going to make German Potato Salad. We'll have a compliment of German beer at the tailgate including a few homebrews (oktoberfest and hefeweisens) from a board member who's big into homebrewing. Nothing like having an Oktoberfest tailgate for our first home game in October, right?
This coming week is an away game at Alabama. I like our chances, but Alabama's a tough team at their place, so who knows. The game will be on ESPN2 @ 6pm EST nationally.

Had a great time at the game yesterday. Carolina won convincingly, 34-3, over South Florida. Our Sophomore backup QB made his first start and threw for 300+ yards, 210 of which went to one receiver who also caught the 3 TD's he threw.
These are always my favorite games. Night games mean you get to sleep in, take your time packing stuff up, and you get a lot of tailgate time when there are other games on TV to watch. Plus, when you're playing an easy team, it's nice watching a blowout win. I don't care if other people think those kinds of games are boring, I'll take 11 of them a season, no questions asked.

Work has been work, that's for sure... very busy. Add to that two good workouts Monday and yesterday and I'm beat. This weekend should be nice... no #3 team in the nation coming into town... just lowly South Florida. Hope we avoid the embarassing loss, but they're not that good so it shouldn't be that hard of a game. They are the 'Bulls' so we're planning on beef BBQ ribs for the tailgate group.
Christina's been going around at work too about her new position and trying to get out of that main office. It turned out Misty needed full time work anyway since she was only working 20 hours/week so she was interested in the job. I think they're going to train her to replace Christina's old job so she can finally get out of that position and start doing her new job she got 6 months ago. All I know is she's been on edge about it the last couple days and finally got better news on progress today which is great.
Still, I'm going to have to do something nice for her bday in a couple weeks, eh?
What a frustrating game yesterday. A story of missed opportunities for Carolina.
We were up 16-0 and went to the half up 16-6, but we let Georgia come back and win 20-16. The most frustrating thing was that we had the ball inside the 15 twice in the last few minutes of the 4th quarter. It's great that our defense played well and that our offense played well enough to be in that position, but you have to capitalize on opportunities like that. We sure did give the #3 team in the country a run for their money though. I do wonder what the game would have been like if our RB Summers hadn't gotten hurt on the first play of the game. He's truly a playmaker and without him it was just that much harder. Our best cornerback broke his foot in the first quarter also, one of our good receivers hurt his knee in pre-game warmups and didn't play, and our best receiver who had 131 yards and a TD couldn't play the 4th quarter because his legs were cramping up.
All in all I am proud of the team for playing so hard with that kind of adversity, but it was still a tough loss.

Also, with the huge amounts of rain we've gotten lately the rivers around here have been very high. Well, our neighborhood has 700-1000 yards or so of woods and swamp between it and the Broad River. The ponds on our property all tie into the river eventually too. So they're all extremely high too. Here's a gallery of a few pictures from around our clubhouse and the gate blocking the road to our boat ramp on the river... which has flooded the whole road past the gate:
ESPN Gameday is coming to town again! The image above is from the 2001 season.
They picked the USC-Georgia game for this Saturday's show. I'll definitely be down there in time for the 10:30 start of the show. There was a huge crowd for Gameday last time they were here. Let's just hope the game doesn't go the way the last one did. At least kickoff is at 5:30 instead of the 7:45 start we had on the last Gameday game. That was a long day... 14 hours... 10am to 12am by the time we got home.
Not sure if I'm going to try to make a sign or not. In the background behind the broadcasters on Gameday you always see signs in the crowd.
We didn't exactly beat the best team in the nation, but Vandy is an SEC team, so technically right now we're first in the SEC East.
Michigan rolled, Michigan State lost to Rutgers (ha!)... pretty good day in College football.
Only downside... Clemson beat Wake in overtime. They were up 19-3 and let Wake score 24 unanswered points before they finally decided to start playing again. With a minute something left they scored and got the 2-point conversion to tie the game.
Oh well... Carolina won and it was a very good game. That's all that matters really.
I've been out sick from work the last couple days, so the week is flying by I guess. In fact, I was going to post up pictures from this last weekend in Myrtle Beach and here it is, a week from when we left for the beach already.
Anyway, Myrtle Beach was a lot of fun. Not a lot of sleep, but lots of fun. We got in Thursday and stayed up drinking until 3:30am... great start to a beach vacation!
No real hangovers all weekend though... which is a major plus when you plan on getting some sun during the day. Misty's Dad's condo is in a good spot on the beach too. Just to our north starts the strip along Ocean Drive. It's close to everything pretty much. We went out Friday night to a cafe called Gulfstream for dinner. Had a really good blackened salmon and Christina had some beef medalions that were good also. Later Friday night we hit Broadway and went to a few of the bars there that didn't have a cover charge. We were only out until 1:30 that night.
Saturday we walked around Myrtle Beach's new mall looking for a good price on a football for the beach because someone stole the one that was supposed to be at the condo. Found one in this really cool kite shop... they had lots of beach stuff and kites for most every pro and college team out there.
Saturday night we went to a place called Joe's Hamburger Grill. Good food at cheap prices, but quite a bit north of Myrtle Beach up US 17. After we left there, we went to Spencerz Sports Pub on US 17 closer to the beach because the first college football game of the year was on that night. We stayed there for quite a while... enough to build up $100+ bar tab. The server we had was the story of the night though... she had been a waitress for 2 months she said and it showed. She screwed up drinks 3 times, including doubling shots we'd ordered (and doubling the price obviously). The real kicker was at the end of the night when we all gave Misty cash for our parts and she asked the girl to take the cash off the bill and put the rest on her bank card. Misty should have had to sign for a $9.95 bank card slip after the cash but when it comes back it was $29.95 instead. Misty called her on it and the girl pulled out the exact bills we gave her ($20, $20, $50) and said, "But you only gave me $70!". Priceless. The fact that she held out $90 in cash.. the same EXACT bills we gave her and told us all that we only gave her $70 was simply priceless. That girl has Christina to thank that she didn't get chewed out before we left because I was heading over there to give her a few tips and Christina stopped me. Not that I've waited tables before, but it's not like I've never had a tab at a bar before either. I was going to tell her two tips... one, when you screw up a shot and double it, the customer doesn't pay for the extra shot when the tab comes... and two, when you have a designated driver (Christina) drinking Coke all night, you don't bill us for the Coke!! Argh... that's common sense... customers have $100 bar tab and you can't comp us the Coke??
Anyway, after that buzzkill we headed back to the condo and hit the beach. Pretty much ran around out there being stupid, but stuck to Christina's rule of 'only knee deep!'. Gotta love her.
The rest of our trip was much windier than the beginning. We left the beach around 3:00am and there was a little lightning in the distance, but nothing major. We woke up to the sound of the wind howling. Gaston made landfall about 90 miles to our south in Charleston Sunday morning. We had winds around 25-28mph with gusts up to 43mph or so. Not a lot of rain on the coast though, just a small band now and again. We took the camcorder with us and shot some video of the waves out on the beach and of us leaning into the wind a little. Also shot some surfers taking advantage of the waves. When they came in they said that the waves would be better when the wind switched directions and was blowing out to sea. I guess the wind was making the waves break to soon when it was blowing in off the ocean.
When everyone got up and got ready we packed up and got out of there. The winds weren't nearly as strong inland, but the rain sure was. From around the start of US 76 until our exit in Columbia off I-20 it poured and poured... and poured. Pretty strong rain bands. Didn't slow down traffic really though and there wasn't much traffic to begin with because there wasn't really an evacuation. Just the standard 'leaving Myrtle Beach on Sunday' travelers.
